Broker's Comments

‘The Golant Ketch was designed by Roger Dongray who is best known for designing several of the Crabber range including the hugely successful Shrimper.
Following her launch, she has been trailed and sailed around the south coast and was most recently based at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club sailing frequently in the Bristol Channel and Cardiff Bay with the Old Gaffers Association members based there.
The Golant Ketch is constructed as a 12mm marine ply hull built over bulkheads and stringers. The outside of the hull is sheathed with two layers of 200gsm plain-weave cloth and epoxy resin.
Sheet lead – 880lbs (400kg) worth of it – was secured in the bilges adjacent to the centreboard, effectively by laminating it together with PU adhesive. The centreboard was made up of four layers of plywood totalling 1½in (38mm), with a large section of the two inner layers removed and replaced by 112lbs (51kg) of lead.
The spars are made from straight grained Sitka spruce – the mast is hollow while the others are solid.
The sails were made by Jeckells of Wroxham with the jib benefitting from a simple and reliable roller reefing system led back to the cockpit. Indeed all sail controls are accessible from the cockpit ensuring that single handed sailing is feasible and safe.
Apart from the spars all solid timber is African Khaya Mahogany.
Daydream is a joy to sail. She has proved herself to be a tough, stable and seaworthy vessel. This has been particularly evident by the way that she has revelled in the challenging and demanding conditions experienced in the Bristol Channel.
